Secondary & Tertiary Crushing

PY2200系列 Spring Cone Crusher

Inter-particle crushing, spring-based tramp-iron protection and multiple cavity profiles — the workhorse for secondary and tertiary crushing of hard rock.

PY / PYF Series Spring Cone Crusher

2200mm
Motor Power
280kWkW

Overview

The PY2200系列 belongs to the Spring Cone Crusher from New Shanbao, featuring spring-type overload protection and designed for secondary and tertiary crushing of hard rock and ore. Material enters the annular chamber formed by the concave and mantle; the eccentric rotation of the mantle repeatedly squeezes and bends it, crushing it in the parallel zone before it discharges from the bottom.

This model is supplied with motor and electrical control, with a motor power of 280kW. Unlike a jaw crusher, a cone crusher works by inter-particle (laminated) crushing — material is crushed against itself inside the chamber, so wear is distributed more evenly, the product is closer to cubic and flakiness is low. That makes it the standard choice for the secondary and tertiary stages in hard-rock aggregate and ore-dressing plants.

Several standard cavity profiles (coarse, medium and fine) are available. By changing the mantle and concave, the same machine can be switched between cavities to rebalance throughput against product size.

✓Design Features

  • Inter-particle crushing — material is squeezed against itself, giving high efficiency and low energy consumption per tonne.
  • Spring overload protection: tramp metal pushes the mantle back, compresses the springs and is discharged, after which the machine self-resets.
  • Multiple cavity options (coarse, medium, fine, extra-fine) let one frame cover everything from post-primary to pre-sand-making duty.
  • High-manganese mantle and concave wear evenly, last longer and are easy to source.
  • Oil lubrication with air or water cooling keeps bearing temperatures stable even in hot climates.
  • Optional hydraulic adjustment and clamping make closed-side-setting changes easy and prevent loosening during operation.

◎Applications

  • Hard-rock aggregate: granite, basalt, diabase
  • Ore dressing: iron, copper, gold, lead-zinc
  • Second and third stage crushing in large aggregate plants
  • Shaping and fine crushing ahead of manufactured-sand lines
  • Cement and metallurgy: flux and auxiliary material crushing
  • Metal-mine tailings and smelter slag recycling
  • Highway and railway ballast aggregate
  • Sand and gravel processing for hydropower projects

Working Principle

The chamber is formed by a fixed concave and a mantle mounted on an eccentric sleeve. The motor drives the countershaft and the bevel gear pair, rotating the eccentric so the mantle gyrates. On the side where the mantle approaches the concave, material is squeezed and bent until it breaks; on the opposite side the chamber opens and material discharges. The cycle repeats continuously.

The parallel zone at the bottom of the chamber governs product size. Material is compressed several times there, which evens out the product and produces a near-cubic shape. The spring system provides a relief stroke when uncrushable material enters — the core protection mechanism of the machine.

Selection Guide

  • Choose the cavity by process stage: standard coarse for secondary duty, short-head fine or extra-fine for tertiary duty.
  • Choose by product size: a longer parallel zone and tighter setting give a finer product but reduce throughput.
  • Choose by hardness: for very hard rock, take the upper end of the motor power options to avoid stalling.
  • Choose by capacity: base the figure on the crushability of the pre-crushed feed, and estimate 70–80% of nominal for hard rock.
  • Always fit a magnet or metal detector ahead of the crusher so tramp iron does not repeatedly trip the release system.

FAQ

Spring cone vs single-cylinder hydraulic cone — which one?

The spring cone is a mature, low-maintenance design with inexpensive parts — good for small-to-medium plants and tight budgets. The single-cylinder hydraulic cone does all adjustment and protection hydraulically: more automated, quicker setting changes, better for large aggregate lines and duty that needs frequent adjustment. Both are reliable in hard-rock secondary and tertiary duty; the difference is automation level and investment.

Can the cavity profile be changed later?

Yes. Changing the mantle and concave switches the cavity on the same frame. Standard and short-head types differ mainly in parallel-zone length and chamber profile; before converting, have the manufacturer confirm the eccentric and main shaft are compatible.

Why is a cone crusher better than a jaw for fine hard-rock crushing?

Because it crushes by inter-particle compression. Force is transmitted through the material bed rather than directly onto the wear parts, so liners wear more evenly, energy per tonne is lower and the product is closer to cubic. A jaw crusher works mainly by single-particle compression and is better suited to the primary stage.
